I notice that with synthetics, it takes much longer to feel the reflective heat when I'm already cold. When I wear a down jacket, I feel the reflective, trapped heat almost immediately. My experience is down keeps me warmer and much faster than any synthetic I've tried. Rab advertises the Positron to be used in some pretty cold places & many feel because of the sleeves, this jacket doesn't cut it. People have complained about the sleeves not containing enough down insulation, which lead to cold arms/hands. A little annoying.Īs far as the Positron goes, I've read a lot of reviews that people weren't a huge fan of this jacket because of the stitched-through sleeves. I tend to run on the super cold side when static and not moving = Belays. I went back and forth with down and synthetic belay jackets since I returned the Nilas a couple years ago.Ĭurrently, I'm wearing the Rab Neutrino Endurance Jacket (250 grams, 800 fill, hydrophobic down.) If temps bottom out & I'm climbing in 10✯ or less, I pair it with a Nano Puff or another smaller, thinner down jacket from Rab: The Continuum Jacket (138 grams, 850 Fill, hydrophobic down.) Main: 100% recycled polyamide.I previously owned the Nilas & sent it back for the same reason - For me, it just wasn't warm enough for my intentions.Waterproof roll-top compression sack included.Zipped storage sack with water-resistant base for home storage.YKK Anti-snag zip insert and anti snag internal zip guard.Angled foot box for relaxed sleeping posture.YKK 3/4 length main zip with synthetic filled baffle to trap warmth.Close fitting adjustable neck baffle design for decreased heat loss.Trapezoidal boxwall construction with differential cut, to maximise loft and warmth.Weight saving chevron baffle design, reduces down migration and optimises core warmth.800FP European Goose Down with Nikwax Fluorocarbon-Free Hydrophobic Finish (800g / 28.2oz).20D Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon ripstop (38gsm) with fluorocarbon-free DWR.Hand-filled in the UK, all our down bags benefit from never having had their down compressed before use, maintaining the down’s loft and warmth. ![]() It has a ¾ length zip with anti-snag zip guards, a zipped internal stash pocket and comes with a waterproof roll-top compression sack for easy stashing. The down is also finished with a Nikwax, fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic treatment for coping with condensation. Now built with a recycled nylon lining and recycled Pertex® Quantum outer, it’s wind resistant and a little lighter on the planet too. Additional baffles along the length of the zip and around the neck decrease heat loss, and with an adjustable drawcord around the hood you can cinch the bag around your face. The trapezoid boxwall baffle construction allows the down to fully loft, eliminates cold spots, and maximises warmth. The Neutrino 800 is filled with 800g of 800FP, goose down, stabilised in chevron shaped baffles, cleverly designed to reduce the amount of fabric needed compared to traditional horizontal baffles. It’s perfect for four season mountain missions. Designed with a narrow mummy fit, for reduced bulk and pack size, and constructed with lightweight, high performance materials. ![]() For the alpinist looking for a lightweight, low bulk bag suitable for sub zero temperatures, the Neutrino 800 offers exceptional packability and warmth for its weight.
